| OPEL |
|
| A brand with a longstanding heritage. |
|
Opel
is a brand with a long-standing tradition in Europe and
today produces and sells vehicles worldwide. Opel was founded
in 1862 in Rüsselheim, Germany by Adam Opel. He started
to manufacture high-quality sewing machines in volume
and the company later became a leading producer of bicycles
before assuming its current role as one of the world’s
largest producers of automobile. |
| |
In
1929, Opel joined the General Motors family of cars and
trucks. In 2002, some 1.6 million Opel and Vauxhall cars,
commercial vehicles and component sets were produced in
nine production and assembly operations in six countries
in Western and Central Europe. Outside Europe, products
bearing the Opel brand – including vehicles based
on Opel technology – are manufactured in 13 plants
worldwide. |
| |
| Opel/Vauxhall products are sold under different brand
names in some 170 countries on five continents. |
| |
| Since its inception in 1862, Opel has set out to make
technology affordable and widely available to a large
segment of society. This vision has remained constant
from its roots as a sewing machine manufacturer, its subsequent
expansion to bicycles and today remains at the heart of
all automotive product development. |
